There are rumors that a rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is "in negotiations"

There are rumors that Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are "in talks" to rematch their 2017 bout.

The MMA superstar was defeated in the tenth round by the former 50-0 boxing legend, who terminated his career and departed from the sport five years prior.

Since then, Mayweather has participated in three exhibition matches.

Tenshin Nasukawa, a 20-year-old kickboxer, was knocked out in the first round of the first of these fights, which took place on New Year's Eve 2018 in Japan.

With boxer-turned-YouTuber Logan Paul in the second fight, which took place in June 2021, Mayweather went the whole eight rounds.

And in the third, which took place most recently in May, Floyd thoroughly outclassed Don Moore over the course of eight rounds in Abu Dhabi.

Mayweather has said that he will travel back to Japan after his fight with Moore and take on Mikuru Asakura there in September.

It appears that grander ambitions might be in the works, though.

There are already discussions for a potential rematch with McGregor, according to FightHype, the boxing YouTube site with by far the closest connection to Mayweather's management.

According to sources with direct knowledge of the situation, Conor McGregor of the UFC and Hall of Famer Floyd Mayweather are currently in negotiations for a future rematch.

If the two parties can reach an agreement, Mayweather would receive another nine-figure payout, according to our sources.

Although neither party has yet to confirm it, McGregor's Instagram post from Thursday night undoubtedly aroused some questions.

Just before word of his rumored conversations with Mayweather spread, the Irish UFC champion uploaded a photograph from his first match with the boxer.

"I accept," McGregor wrote as the image's caption.

If this is an indication that negotiations are in progress, only time will tell.

The Money Fight and The Biggest Fight in Combat Sports History between undefeated eleven-time five-division boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and two-division mixed martial arts (MMA) world champion and current UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor took place in a professional boxing match.

On August 26, 2017, the bout took place at the light middleweight limit at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada (154 lbs; 69.9 kg). Twelve rounds were scheduled, and it had the second-highest pay-per-view buy rate ever.

After defeating McGregor via technical knockout (TKO) in the tenth round, Mayweather increased his undefeated record in professional boxing to 50 wins and 0 losses(50-0), surpassing Rocky Marciano's 49-0 mark.

McGregor kept up his passion in boxing and entertained the possibility of a "money fight" with Mayweather throughout his successful UFC mixed martial arts career. On The Dan Patrick Show, UFC president Dana White denied the Mayweather-UFC fight rumors, saying Mayweather would have to get in touch with him because McGregor was a UFC employee.

White even went so far as to say, in reference to Super Bowl LI, "Here's what I think the chances are (of the fight occurring): About the same of me being Brady's backup quarterback on Sunday." According to a January 2017 report, negotiations for a possible fight between Mayweather and McGregor had reached a "exploratory phase" between the two parties.

White made the public offer to give Mayweather $25 million during an appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd. He also anticipated that the hypothetical fight's pay-per-view viewership might be comparable to Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.

Asserting that "if Conor McGregor genuinely wants this bout to happen, stop blowing smoke up everyone's ass," Mayweather urged McGregor to "sign the paper" and "make it happen" on March 7, 2017.

Only a fight with McGregor, according to Mayweather, would force him out of retirement, he said on March 10, 2017. On March 16, 2017, Dana White changed his mind and declared he wouldn't deny McGregor a sizable payday despite his initial opposition to a Mayweather-McGregor fight. Mayweather reportedly amended the conditions of the contract on May 18, 2017, and McGregor apparently signed it. On June 14, the match's official confirmation was made. From July 11 to 14, there was an international press trip.

Gervonta Davis, the IBF junior lightweight champion, was reportedly planning to compete in a co-main event in July 2017. McGregor compared Mayweather to a Malteser with eyes earlier this year. More information about the undercard was made public on July 19. At that point, Mayweather Promotions had signed up British amateur fighter Savannah Marshall earlier in the year, and Badou Jack had volunteered to compete at light heavyweight.

Three more names had also been confirmed for the undercard. Shawn Porter, a former welterweight champion, would face Thomas Dulorme in the main event of the preliminary bill, it was revealed on July 26, 2017. Due to a loss in the family and other personal reasons, Porter withdrew from the fight on August 17.Yordenis Ugás, a boxer from Cuba, took his spot. It was announced on July 29 that Gervonta Davis will fight Roman 'Rocky' Martinez, a former WBO champion, to defend his IBF junior lightweight championship. Due to not having enough time to meet the 130 pound [59 kg] restriction, Martnez was dropped.

Instead, Davis' battle with undefeated prospect Francisco Fonseca has been postponed. On August 9, 2017, it was revealed that Badou Jack of the Money Team would challenge Nathan Cleverly for the WBA light heavyweight championship.
